COSRX Snail Mucin Products For The Natural Glow
Today I will be reviewing COSRX snail mucin products for the natural glow everyone loves to have. I linked above a previous post on everything you need to know about snail mucin if you would like to know more about that. I would not be talking to great lengths about snail mucin benefits in this post.
Snail mucin was once a fad ingredient but not anymore. Vegan skincare and probiotics are currently trending. The products I’m going to review have been in the market for a few years and are expected to remain cult classics - COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in one Cream, and COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence.
Before I move on with the Cosrx snail mucin reviews, I would again inform new readers as I always
do in my posts, I have dry and acne-prone skin. So whatever beauty products I
review usually center around my skin type. But also I usually bring the
products out for you that fit all skin types. Now let’s jump into the products.
COSRX is one of the top k-beauty brands specifically for dry and acne-prone skin, exactly my skin type! Their products are mild, gentle, have fewer add-ons, and affordable. The two products I would be reviewing are their snail essence and cream.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
First
of all, to those who don’t know what an essence is, I will explain it to you.
Not what Google or the brands say, but in my own words, whichever you can
familiarize yourself with!
What Is An Essence?
Essence, Korean skincare innovation, is water with a slightly viscous texture, or diluted form of concentrated serums. Its purpose is to hydrate the skin, making the next skincare products in line absorb better.
Essences are quite popular in Asian skincare routine. K-beauty is seeing a little growth in Americas but has still not reached Europe. Europeans are less aware of k-beauty, but it is now turning its heads to my region.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is a lightweight but highly concentrated essence with 96.3% snail secretion filtrate, and 3.7% other ingredients. It is intended to give you long-lasting hydration and a dewy complexion. COSRX is a cruelty-free brand. They also support that snails aren’t harmed during harvesting. They use an edible snail specie i.e. giant African snail, Achatina fulica. COSRX snail mucin is cruelty free. They use a mesh net and place the snails on them to ram about at night, as nocturnal creatures. Making environment appropriate for them for optimal mucin production.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence comes in four package sizes i.e. from 20ml to 100ml, including a small sachet. 100ml retails for USD 25.
Main Ingredients
Five ingredients worthy of notice are;
- Snail Secretion Filtrate – The hero ingredient with all the benefits.
- Sodium Hyaluronate – A hydrator.
- Allantoin – An all-rounder, fighter, and a protector of your skin from dryness and mild irritations.
- Panthenol – Vitamin B5 for water retention.
- Arginine – An amino acid to promote the production of skin cells.
How to Use COSRX Snail Mucin Essence
The brand directs to use it after cleansing and toning. Take 1-2 pumps of the essence in your hands and apply all over the face. Pat it for absorption. Follow up with a moisturizer.
I
use two to five pumps of COSRX snail essence daily including the neck and for
both AM and PM routines.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review
COSRX
Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is highly concentrated, highly rated, and
a cult classic that gives naturally glowing skin. It has become my go-to snail
essence. Snail mucin being the ingredient that prevents signs of aging, and give a youthful appearance to the skin. It is very hydrating, feels light on the skin, and leaves it super
smooth. The essence has a very interesting slimy, icky, mushy texture. It is
perfect for every season.
Packaging
What I love about the packaging is that it comes in a bottle with a cap that is
very tight. I have had bad experiences with many beauty products that had caps
that came loose after using them. I was hesitant when I saw this one. Now that
my bottle is empty, the cap is still quite intact. The travel-sized packaging
would be handy for go-to.
How It Is Different From Its Competitors
There
are a lot of other snail essences and serums in k-beauty. This one is the most potent form with 96% snail mucin, whereas all the other eleven ingredients are to enhance snail mucin benefits for skin. A few other great
brands offering snail essences and serums are Mizon, Benton, SMD Cosmetics, and Dewytree.
Their formulations are a mix of many ingredients so you can call them diluted snail mucin formulations. Mizon Snail Repair Intensive Essence
has a peptide complex for cell-communicating properties (in my upcoming
reviews). Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence has bee venom for extra
nourishment. And Dewytree Ultra Vitalizing Snail Essence Water has antioxidants
for fighting free radicals on the skin.
Key Decision-Making Factors
You
can choose among Dewytree, Benton, and Mizon, but I would recommend COSRX based
on two factors. It focuses on only one strong ingredient making it highly
concentrated. Also, because my skin easily breaks out, its formulation also
meets my custom requirements of having fewer add-ons. This helps me with less
congestion and breakout. Those who would prefer a mix of ingredients and less
concentration of snail extract may start out with the alternatives. But
eventually you would want to try this one.
Would
I repurchase? In the snail category, always and only. This has made it to my
top three essences list. The other two I will review in future.
Recommended
for? Oily, normal, combination, dry, extra dry, sensitive skin types.

COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in one Cream is a moisturizer with 92% of snail secretion
filtrate to hydrate, nourish, and plump skin. The packaging further says it
prevents aging. It is packaged in a tub. 100g retails for USD 26.
Main Ingredients
This moisturizer has six ingredients worthy of notice.
- Snail Secretion Filtrate – The superstar all nourishing with anti-aging benefits.
- Sodium Hyaluronate – A hydrophilic to attract moisture in skin cells.
- Allantoin – An all-rounder skin defender from dryness and irritations.
- Panthenol – Vitamin B5, anti-inflammatory.
- Arginine – A cell-communicating amino acid.
- Adenosine – A skin-restoring agent to decrease the appearance of wrinkles.
How to Use COSRX Snail All In One Cream
The brand directs you to apply a small amount on your face after
essence or serum. In this case, the snail essence, and pat for absorption.
Avoid eye and mouth area.
If
you need more than 2 grams approx, go for it because at least I pile the
product. I also apply it around my eyes and mouth area. I use it daily and
often switch it between my AM and PM skincare routines.
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream Review
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All in one Cream is an all in one cream for face and also a lightweight moisturizer. It is super moisturizing and hydrating for dry skin, yet lightweight enough for acne prone. It is another cult k-beauty product that rejuvenates, plumps, and nourishes skin for a youthful natural glow and a dewy bounce. It reduces appearance of wrinkles, and regenerates damaged skin. As a moisturizer, the texture feels even slimier than the essence. It did make my skin feel and look healthy and plump. My favorite moisturizers should have that only quality of not breaking me out and this one did not. It works well in humid season too. I have used this product twice, and it has made it to my favorite moisturizers list.
Packaging
This all in one cream comes in a tub, you would need to use it with washed hands or else, buy a makeup spatula to avoid product contamination. I personally think it should have been in a tube or bottle instead of a tub, because the snail cream is thin, so it spills. COSRX has changed the cream's outer packaging. They have added an extra flap. It just seems additional packaging, but I think it wasn't needed.
How It Is Different From Competitors
There
are a few other snail moisturizer alternatives from the best Korean cosmetic
brands such as Mizon, Benton, Missha, and Dewytree. Mizon All In One Snail
Repair Cream comes with peptide complex for cell regeneration. If we talk about Benton snail bee essence vs Cosrx snail mucin, the Benton Snail Bee
High Content Steam Cream has an additional ingredient, the bee extract that adds extra nourishment to the skin. Dewytree Ultra
Vitalizing Snail Cream has antioxidants for protecting skin from damage from
environmental and stress factors. Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Cream has a
bit of a silicon content to it and arbutin for skin whitening.
Key Decision Making Factors
If
you want to try these options then, check out them. From those, my second best
recommendations would be Benton, Mizon, and Dewytree. But personally, COSRX snail cream
meets my exact skin needs of being dry and acne prone that easily reacts and
breaks out. Also, it is a highly concentrated single ingredient product. So, if that is your focus, then this would be your ultimate choice. It is also lightweight, water based, and has less add-ons. Again it
focuses on only one strong ingredient. This helps me keep away from pore
clogging and breakout. So I would not switch to others.
Would
I repurchase? Among snail extracts, Yes. But for moisturizers, I always feel
open to explore more moisturizers so that I can choose which ones to add to my
favorite moisturizers list.
Recommended
for? Oily, normal, combination, dry, extra dry, and sensitive skin types.

Common Factors
Snail
extract and fewer add-ons are the commonalities of the two products. Snail
mucin reduces visibility of hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and soothes red
skin. As an antiaging ingredient, it improves elasticity, and resilience of
your skin. It has wound healing abilities, helps in repair of photoaged skin,
and also treats atropic acne scarring and dermatitis.
Both
products are water based suitable. That means they are suitable for oily skin
as well that type easily gets dehydrated. Also, the products have no fragrance,
making it suitable for sensitive skin.
I have often seen this question on the internet, "COSRX snail essence vs snail cream?" There is literally no comparison! They share a common ingredient not product category. You cannot compare two different product categories. One is an essence and the other a cream; separate steps to your skincare routine. You cannot use essence in place of a cream. In other words, these are not each other's substitutes.
I
still don’t quite understand why the brand says not to apply the products
around the eyes and especially the mouth area. I apply the products around my
eyes. The skin around my mouth is especially the driest and that is where I
pile the products the most. My family does it too. So if this works for me, why
not you! In case of doubts, you can avoid applying it on your lash line.
Both
products are great to wear under your makeup. You would feel your foundation
and concealer glide on it.
COSRX Snail Mucin
Before and After
These
products did three things to my skin on which basis I will give my verdict and
conclude;
- When I used it the very first time I had red acne on my nose. I used it for two days and noticed the redness gone.
- Because of snail extract’s anti-inflammatory properties, I visibly noticed my acne lessening and fading away.
- I had numerous dot sized, hard boils on my forehead and the bridge of the nose, spread like a Pointillism. They never went away with all the treatments I ever did, including prescriptive retinoid and OTC. My dermatologist said it could only be treated with Cautery surgical procedure. But I’m scared of physical pain. These products were like a magic wand to my skin. It didn’t even take a month for the issue to go away and I’ve never seen it on my face ever since.
My
verdict is that it is due to concentrated snail extract in the products,
especially the essence. For me, it couldn’t get better!
Conclusion
Every
skincare routine takes time to treat your skin. Always be patient when you are
using any product. Some ingredients show results instantaneously while others,
due to their scientific nature, take time.
Among
snail mucin products, these could be your best bet, a powerful ingredient with fewer add-ons. COSRX snail stuff is good. Like I said earlier, go for the alternatives if you want to. Benton and
Dewytree are my other suggested second-best brands in the snail category. For
those willing to try it for the first time, the alternatives have less snail
extract, if that is what you prefer, and more other ingredients. Personally, in
the snail category, I would not experiment with snail alternatives. The lighter
and fewer add-ons the product has, the better for acne-prone skin.
