The Best and the Weirdest Chocolate Trends

The quest to look for the best and weirdest chocolate trends will always remain for years to come. If you're looking for an opinionated blog post on what some foodies think about the world of chocolate, this is it! We will cover everything from weird to best chocolate trends.

First, let's start with basics. The best kind of chocolate is dark chocolate. It has a complex flavor that isn't too sweet and has health benefits like antioxidants. The worst kind of chocolate as per global opinion is white chocolate. It has cocoa butter in it which makes for a sweet, almost bland flavor that is sometimes referred to as ‘toilet candy’. It is a bad name for a food item I admit! White chocolate is not considered real chocolate, because it contains cocoa butter and no cocoa solids. But it is also loved by many for its creamy, sweet, sticky, and milky texture. The weirdest kind of chocolate probably belongs to the flavored bars. Recently, more chocolates are trending with different ingredients such as turmeric, and matcha. Chocolatiers are classifying them among new chocolate trends, but technically are not in my opinion. But yes, I agree with the newer types of chocolate i.e. ruby chocolate, and blond chocolate; each have different and unique flavors. I would cover these in more detail in my later posts.

Why does anyone think that coconut and strawberry taste like chocolate? It doesn't make sense to us!

Chocolate Experience: The best kinds of chocolates are those that make you feel good. They can also be indulgent. Chocolate experiences are all about creating that unforgettable experience around chocolate. It includes chocolate background, beverages to drink with it, chocolate making process, and taste testing. These experiences can be anything from cooking classes to tours of chocolatiers, or even pairing sessions where guests eat different types of dark chocolate. A memorable and pleasurable experience around chocolate is created in order to get people excited about the confectionary treat.

Best Chocolate Trends

What are the best chocolate trends? Here are a few favored ones:

1. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is a healthy chocolate option that is becoming more popular, because people are looking for healthier alternatives to sugary snacks. People are consuming more dark chocolate than ever. Dark chocolate is the best kind of chocolate, because it has more cocoa content, less add-ons, and less sugar. So you get a boost of antioxidants in the healthiest way possible. This is the reason dark chocolate is recognized as super food, because it contains antioxidants which improves health and fights free radicals.

2. Milk Chocolate

Milk chocolate although isn't as healthy as dark chocolate, but has always been the most popular and crowd's favorite across the globe for its creamy and rich texture, and dairy flavor. However, among new trends, cow's milk is getting replaced with soy milk, and coconut milk where vegan chocolate options are available. Cadbury also came up with its first ever vegan chocolate bar in two flavors.

3. Chocolate Bark

Many chocolate companies are making chocolate bark - another rising trend in the market for its health content (refer image above). Chocolate bark is made up of nuts, oats, seeds, brownies, candy, toffee, cookies, fruits such as raisins, dry fruits, are topped with dark chocolate and turned into a slab resembling that of a tree bark in texture and uneven shape. Because of its content, chocolate bark is considered a healthy and wholesome snack.

4. Chocolate Bars

This is an interesting trend that seems to be gaining more traction with consumers. These bars are made out of dark or milk chocolate but have various healthy ingredients added into them such as fruits, nuts and spices. Health-conscious consumers are looking to get the taste of chocolate without unhealthy ingredients, and these bars provide that option. Many brands that usually made bite sized chocolates suitable for gifts, are now making chocolate bars. Ferrero Rocher recently launched three chocolate bars. Guylian also came up with five chocolate bars out of which, two contain less sugar and more stevia. More artisanal chocolatiers are making chocolate bars of different sorts and healthy ingredients, further painted with beautiful craftsmanship.

Weirdest Chocolate Trends

The weird chocolate trends are those that either do not make sense or, when companies try to get consumers addicted to their product by adding caffeine or nicotine into them. In the past, people have come up with some strange chocolate ideas that came into fruition. Here are a few of the weirdest;

1. Chocolate Chip Flowers

This trend is probably not quite what you expect it to be. These chips are actually edible flowers dipped in chocolate. The process involves taking a flower like jasmine or honeysuckle, and covering it with a layer of dark chocolate. It is actually not as weird as you might think, considering that many flowers like roses are candied to be used in cakes and desserts, but these chocolates seem rather useless given their appearance.

2. Chocolate Accessories

Accessories that are made out of chocolate. This includes jewelry, may also include other items like décor accessories. Although the trend has been around for some time now, it is solely to offer and flaunt fancy items.

3. Chocolate Sculptures

This trend is exactly what it sounds like. Chocolate sculptures are artworks are made out of chocolate. They can be anything from animals to robots, landscapes, fictional characters, décor objects, and even people. These sculptures are often very intricate and detailed, making them a real work of art.

4. Chocolate Fountains

These fountains have been around for a while now, and are still a popular choice for events (refer second image). Chocolate fountains are essentially tanks of melted chocolate that guests can dip fruit and other snacks into. Melting chocolate fondue waterfall machines are also available to present this. I have also tried chocolate fondue and personally enjoyed it.

5. Chocolate Liqueurs

Liqueurs are alcoholic drinks that are made with a variety of different flavors. Chocolate liqueurs, as you might expect, drinks that are made with chocolate. A few good brands make these. It is either a hit or a miss with people.

6. Chocolate Snow Globes

This trend has been around for a while now, but is still one of the most creative ways to enjoy chocolate as snow globes. You can fill a jar with any kind of liquid, and add cocoa powder and other goodies like marshmallows, and pretzels. Then, shake it all together, and put on top of a plate, or bowl full of ice cubes.

Here are some trends trending in chocolate. The next post on chocolate is extension to it but specific, which I'm sure you would enjoy, so stay signed up for upcoming content. And let me know what you think of the trends in the comment section below. I'll see you all very soon. Bye.

  19. I love dark chocolate (well not 100% dark but has a bit of milk in it) and yes, I’m not a fan of white chocolate. It’s too milky for me. Interesting to find out that some chocolates have swapped cow’s milk for soy or coconut milk! I didn’t know about Cadbury having a vegan chocolate.. I would like to try it for curiosity’s sake even if I’m not vegan. I like chocolate bark and and chocolate bars…. I think I just love chocolate in general…except white chocolate. 🤣 And no way, chocolate accessories? Just why… you wouldn’t want to wear it..why not just eat it?? HAHA. But yes to chocolate fondue!!!

  25. I am hoping to try pink chocolate - have you heard of that one? I'm not sure it's being marketed to the general public yet, but maybe you could review it if you manage a bit? Great Blog, by the way!

    1. the pink/ruby chocolate is Barry Callebaut's own patented product, the reason it's not widely available. But you'd be able to buy it from there website. Unfortunately after this post I did a few niche changes on my blog so couldn't do further chocolate posts. However, this drop of the chocolate niche could be temporary depending upon chocolate (eatable) imports as they could melt/loose shape. So maybe after my relocation I could pick it up again. Sorry about that. But i hope you get your chocolate from the brand i mentioned above. Thanks for reading. xx

  26. Ohh, chocolate! Yes! Bring it. This was a fun article to read and I learned some new chocolate trends/techniques. That flower thing is a bit weird I expected flowers made out of cookies instead of coating a flower with chocolate. XD The snow globe sounds awesome though, wouldn't mind getting one if I would see it around. How do the accessories not melt? Haha, I can only imagine wearing a necklace and suddenly chocolate everywhere. Oh no!
Another weird chocolate is ruby/pink chocolate. A bit strange in taste but still quite good!

    1. thanks a lot for a lovely feedback! Yea the accessory is certainly weird. The chocolate "flavors and types" e.g. ruby, blonde, macha, turmeric were going to be in the upcoming post because these required details too and couldn't fit in in this already long post. But then there were some niche changes and i didnt do the post. But you're right there about that! <3

  28. I love chocolate (apart from dark/plain chocolate) I was thinking chocolate flowers sounded like something I’d like to try; delicate and pleasant but then I got to the chocolate fountain section and was lost in thought of an endless stream of warm flowing chocolate with a selection of things to dip
